Resident wrangler and owner Hadley is also a certified yoga teacher with a dedicated yoga yurt on property- namaste cowgirls. Each day will be a 'choose your own adventure' buffet of riding, hiking and fishing, with delicious western cuisine in between. Maximum group size: 13. Maximum horseback rider weight: 240 pounds.

Trip Intro
Maximum horseback rider weight: 240 pounds. We have rated this trip as a 2 because of the wide variety of options available every day. You might choose half-day horseback rides with afternoons spent reading a book or soaking your feet in the river; or you might ride as much as possible each day with fishing and hiking occupying the rest of your time. The level of activity is up to you. For trips that are rated a 1-2, participants should be walking regularly at a brisk pace 3 to 4 days a week for 35 - 45 minutes prior to trip beginning.
Rating: 1 [2] 3 4 5.
This itinerary hinges around horseback riding but there is something for everyone at Bitterroot Ranch. Each cowgirl will be matched with her perfect well trained horse at the beginning of the week and receive tips and tricks to learn or improve her riding skills over the course of lessons and trail rides. In addition to riding, you can learn the basics of fly fishing and then practice in the nearby river or stocked pond. There is a network of easy to follow trails on property and by the river for self guided hikes too. Reading a book on the front porch of the lodge is always an option too!
The Bitterroot Ranch is located along the East Fork of the Wind River and guests stay in private log cabins situated on either side of the stream. An attempt has been made to retain the authenticity and rustic charm of a bygone era, which is reflected in the atmosphere of the cabins and old main lodge with its huge stone fireplaces and broad porch where guests gather for meals and relaxing evenings. The cabins have been carefully furnished and decorated throughout the over 40 years the Bitterroot has been open as a guest ranch. Many of the cabins have an interesting history but they have been modernized over the years; all have electric heat and showers, most have bathtubs and some have wood burning stoves. 2 cabins have 3 beds in them, the rest of our reserved cabins have 2 beds in each. There are 4 single rooms available on this trip.

As always, I met some amazing women and truly enjoyed the camaraderie. The scenery was breathtaking and the horses and other animals were delightful.

This was my first time traveling without family members, and I was somewhat hesitant traveling with a group of people that I did not know. That hesitancy was gone immediately and it was great to travel with other women who wanted to try something new and not necessarily in their comfort zone.
This was an experience beyond anything I would’ve expected. The people, my fellow travelers and my guides excellent. The scenery, activities , beautiful animals are beyond anything I would have dreamed of.
I learned some new riding tips. I was able to bond with a special horse for a couple of days and had the best two roommates I could ever wish for
